Electronic retail cash registers have been used in restaurants and stores for the past 40 years in one form or another for processing retail transactions.
Little has changed in the features of electronic cash registers over this time. If anything many cash registers have become more difficult to use and maintain as manufacturers of ECR’s (electronic cash register) have introduced more features in an attempt to preserve their market share.
Cash Register manufacturers have already lost the upper end of the retail and hospitality market to POS systems that are easier to use and have more features including producing reports that detail the days and months transactions. You will generally find electronic cash registers now in smaller stores and restaurants, and they have managed to maintain their position in this market because of a perception that POS systems were too expensive and complex for smaller retailers and restauranteurs.
That is until now!
Cheap like a Cash register but the power of a POS system
The recent release of the Labware IQ POS system has delivered a serious challenge to the electronic cash register market. The issue of price has been eliminated with the Labware IQ coming in at near enough the same price as an Electronic cash register, but with all the features of a POS system!
Ready out of the box like a Cash register but has the high performance of a POS system.
The Labware IQ is a high performance POS system in a small footprint terminal that fits on any counter top. Having all its software preloaded – it is ready to go straight out of the box! In addition the Labware IQ POS system has large storage capacity, is super quick processing transactions, is very easy to operate with minimal training, produces X & Z reports, seamlessly handles table maps, AND most importantly has high levels of security. These are all features that are either non-existent or done poorly on an electronic cash register.
Firmware based like an Electronic cash register, but the flexibility of a POS system
The Labware IQ POS system has all of its software embedded within the unit on super fast flash memory. This means there is no hard disk drive that can fail or overheat your system and no need for installing operating system software from third parties. This provides for an extremely reliable and fast system. Staff cannot upload and play computer games on the Labware IQ, nor can it be used to browse the internet.
Easy as an ECR but with the versatility and security of a POS system
The Labware IQ is very easy to use, and is fantastic for organisations that have casual staff, but being a POS system it is also more versatile. The Labware IQ POS system is super secure – unlike many cash register systems – each users transactions are tracked and stored in the transaction history.
Reliable like an ECR, but the user-friendliness of a POS system
Electronic cash registers have had a reputation as being reliable, mainly because of their simplicity. ECR’s however fail miserably whenever there is a malfunction of their internal printer mechanism. When a printer fails in a cash register the system generally ceases to function. With the Labware IQ POS system however, the Labware Ticket printer is a standalone external device – if the printer happens to fail, the Labware IQ POS system continues processing transactions and simply redirects printing to the next available printer. That is user-friendliness!
